Keeping a child away from the street

Janice Knausenberger teaching the PLCC weavers from 3rd – 6th June 2013

The Pangani Weaving Nairobi (PAWENA) organized for a one week workshop as a motivation to our weavers for higher quality production. Janice Knausenberger, a fibre artist living in the USA, and a teacher to our staff since 2007 visited Nairobi and offered this great opportunity.
The major areas covered were choosing and merging colors, making new patterns, achieving accuracy and setting a position that will make the weaver when weaving. The participants were provided with all materials to help in bringing out the look of the mixed different colors.
The 5-days workshop involved all the staff in the weaving project, one of them been a former PLCC child. It was an eye opener to the weavers in many ways like the computerized patterns, quality threading and mixing of colors. These working areas challenged the weavers before the seminar but now they are confident and ready to teach others.
Since PLCC is committed in improving the standard of the weaving unit, this workshop was planned as one achievement towards improving the standard of our products so that we find a space in the weaving markets both local and international.
Thank you to Janice Knausenberger who was willing in making this possible. Bless you Janice.
